Camel-Case Domains, Comic Con, and UT Football

This past weekend was a busy weekend for the House of Brown, and as always, the City of Austin.

As I do every other Saturday, I met with a group of gents from the Executive Leadership Council at Rudy’s.

Unfortunately, due to the down pour of rain at 6am, the meeting consisted of myself and another close friend.

This was good because he and I really needed to catch up with life, work, church and everything else over a few breakfast tacos.

As our time came to a close, knowing I must rush home to post the daily expired domain auction listings, I discovered the Austin Convention Center was hosting the annual Coming Con as read the poster via Rudy’s Bulletin Board.

My latest customer visit to San Diego

I’m coming in hot off a business trip to San Diego today, having arrived in San Diego a little after noon Sunday.

Visit SanDiego.org | San Diego, California

While it was a much needed break from the brutal Texas heat, I didn’t get to do much sightseeing as I would have liked.

It was airport to hotel, hotel to customer site for all day meetings and back to hotel, and from hotel to airport.

In addition, I didn’t rent a car, so about the only domains I captured were thanks to “ubering” to and fro.

It’s hard to believe summer is coming to an end. Like a blink of an eye, what was once the end of a school year is now another school year fast approaching, only weeks away.

The upcoming new school year approaching was finally made real for me as we prepared for our oldest son to begin his academic journey into Kindergarten.

With only one week before school begins, my wife and I attended a number of school-specific playdates scheduled throughout Northwest Austin this summer, as well as parent/student orientation and screenings at his soon-to-be school at the end of last year.

Will Companies Leap to use .LLC Domains?

Out of the two best “corporate identifiers” to arrive in the domain market space, .LLC has beat it’s rival .INC to market a few months early.

Last month Afilias — the registry operator of the .info, .mobi and .pro top-level domain, service provider for registry operators of a handful of other new top-level domain extensions — announced the landrush for the new “dot LLC” or .LLC top level domain.

From Self-Service to Full-Service .Storage

Last weekend I was catching up on the previous week’s mail delivery that hit our inbox.

Of course, summer brings in a number of mailers — vacation offers, pest control, tree trimming, lawn care services, pool service, to name a few.

In between all this junk mail though I found a much anticipated, latest edition of the Community Impact news brief for the Northwest Austin area.

From business openings and closings to real estate news to specific neighborhood stories and issues highlighted, I enjoy reading and catching up on all the news reading Community Impact.

But what caught my about the latest edition was discovering an Austin-based storage company’s advertisement on page 11.

New Domain Extensions Debuting Across Theater Screens

Last week’s date night found my wife and I venturing off to the movies sans kids to view ‘Won’t You Be My Neighbor’ — a movie that examines the life and legacy of Fred Rogers, the beloved host of the popular children’s TV show “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood.”

Seeing we don’t watch much TV around the House of Brown, I didn’t realize ‘Won’t You Be My Neighbor’ was a movie until my wife mentioned it to me after we stumbled upon a Behind-The-Scenes Special chronicling the journey of Rogers.

A few weeks passed and up popped an date night invite to the movies. As we waited for ‘Won’t You Be My Neighbor’ to begin, a number of movie trailers played one after the next.

As they played, I noticed it had been years since I had been in a movie theater. It was interesting to discover how movies of today are being advertised in their use of #hashtags and social media usage — advertising Twitter, Instagram and Facebook handles.

Of course, there were a number of movies advertising matching or near matching .com domains that included movie title and the word “movie” in it.

Being I love and am held captive by domains more than the average person, two distinct movies stood out to many out of likely 10-15 or so that rolled this night: ‘The King’ and ‘Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot’.

Two weekends ago we were in route north to celebrate the life of my cousin whose life come to an end after a short, yet extraordinarily impactful life lived well.

Although he leaves behind a wife and 5 girls ranging in age from 10 to 20 years old, his legacy of attentively serving and encouraging others will live on for the foreseeable future.

But as my family and I traveled from Austin to Dallas, I spotted a few interesting domains being advertised on big rigs and billboards — especially new top-level domain extensions (new TLDs).

Ying Offers Community Events Using .Yoga

While reading the Northwest Austin Edition of Community Impact Newsletter (Volume 12, Issue 4), I stumbled upon an interesting advertisement for an Austin-based yoga company.

Now you may say to yourself, “What’s the big deal about a yoga company?”

It’s not a big deal that an Austin-based yoga company advertises in the Community Impact Newsletter, as do others, but what’s more interesting about their advertisement is the fact that Ying Yoga uses the .yoga domain extension represent their digital presence.

Marketing Multiple Domains to Deliver Heating and Air Conditioning Comfort

We’re well into summer here in Texas, and things are heating up quickly and quite early.

I don’t know if we’ll set record-breaking numbers for triple-digit weather, but things appears to be on track for such a possibility.

Most recently I dedicated a weekend to cleaning our 11-year old air conditioning units in hopes of each lasting one or two more summers before needing to be replaced.

I was fortunate to have cool, overcast weather that weekend to have been able to power off sections at a time of our house.  All in all, it took about 1.5 hours for each system, including disassembly, cleaning, and re-assembly.

Afterwards, both units operated as efficient as they could to be for 11 years old, blowing cool air inside while the temperature inched a few degrees away from triple-digit weather.

This was all good until about a week or so ago when I received the dreaded call from my wife about the upstairs AC unit NO LONGER blowing cold air. ?

Domains and Northwest Austin Exploding with Microbreweries

Northwest Austin Exploding with Microbreweries

Little did I realize the number of microbreweries that are sprouting and propagating the Northwest Austin corridor near The Domain.

It wasn’t until my wife and I were most recently invited to attend a graduation party from a person with our church’s community group.

As we drove to the location of the graduation party, I couldn’t help but notice microbreweries lining the streets of Metric over by Metric and Kramer in Northeast Austin.

One after the next, each microbrewery appear to specialize in its own delightful niche of homegrown brew.

When we finally arrived at our destination, 4th Tap Brewing Cooperative, I was kindly greeted with two different domains that had nothing to do with the brewery or party.

In fact, I struggled a bit to understand both domains and their respective uses.
