Foundation Communities Uses Multi-Domains to Promote Marketplace Health Insurance

It’s hard to believe that November is here and less than 60 days until the end of the year. Today kicks off open enrollment for marketplace health insurance.

With a new year around the corner, you’ll have roughly 45 days to take advantage of establishing coverage or switch plans for the upcoming year.

I was reminded tis’ the season for marketplace health insurance as I stopped for Rudy’s sweet tea on my way to an afternoon meeting.

With a well-done 11 x 17 poster ad, my eyes scanned the full ad to discover that two different .org domain names were being advertised: FoundCom.org and InsureCentralTx.org.

Open Enrollment for Marketplace Health Insurance

While I’m not a big-time .org fan when it comes to domain extensions, I do own a handful of domains. I’m surprised by the number of companies using .org, especially entities that are for-profit.

While I often prefer .net domains when .com domains are not available, the tide is quickly rising for .org to match or overtake the overall number of .net domain registrations.

Nevertheless, the ad — placed by Foundation Communities, a community financial center — sports FoundCom.org as its primary domain and redirects InsureCentralTx.org to its health insurance page.

I like and often encourage the idea of using secondary domains to redirect web visitors to a certain section of a website.

In this case, InsureCentralTx.org is an easy, short, and memorable domain (also known as web URL) versus using the following: https://foundcom.org/health-programs/health-insurance-enrollment/.

And as a sidetone, I did type in FoundCom.com to see if it was registered or not. Unfortunately, Foundation Communities doesn’t own FoundCom.com.

However, FoundCom.com is available for 3rd-party purchase over at HugeDomains.com for $3,995 or a 2-12 month payment for as low as $333).

In my opinion, that pricing is well within the sweet spot of most domain buyers — especially small to medium businesses — investing anywhere between $2-$5K for their respective brand’s .com domain.

And the case of Foundation Communities, it could simply forward the domain to its current .org domain just as it has done with the following domains I discovered:

  • InsureCentralTexas.com
  • InsureCentralTexas.org
  • InsureCentralTx.org
  • InsureCentralTx.com

Well, whether your choose to go through Foundation Communities, or some other outlet for health insurance, just be sure you don’t miss your chance to get covered for switch plans for the upcoming year.

As Franz Kafka’s old saying goes and can certainly applies to insurance, “Better to have, and not need, than to need, and not have.”

Thanks and that’s all for now!

P.S. One more interesting thing to note about the poster is the phrase “Enroll ATX”. I search and found both EnrollATX.com and ATXEnroll.com to be available at the time of publication.
