While reading the Northwest Austin Edition of Community Impact Newsletter (Volume 12, Issue 4), I stumbled upon an interesting advertisement for an Austin-based yoga company.

Now you may say to yourself, “What’s the big deal about a yoga company?”

It’s not a big deal that an Austin-based yoga company advertises in the Community Impact Newsletter, as do others, but what’s more interesting about their advertisement is the fact that Ying Yoga uses the .yoga domain extension represent their digital presence.

We’re well into summer here in Texas, and things are heating up quickly and quite early.

I don’t know if we’ll set record-breaking numbers for triple-digit weather, but things appears to be on track for such a possibility.

Most recently I dedicated a weekend to cleaning our 11-year old air conditioning units in hopes of each lasting one or two more summers before needing to be replaced.

I was fortunate to have cool, overcast weather that weekend to have been able to power off sections at a time of our house.  All in all, it took about 1.5 hours for each system, including disassembly, cleaning, and re-assembly.

Afterwards, both units operated as efficient as they could to be for 11 years old, blowing cool air inside while the temperature inched a few degrees away from triple-digit weather.

This was all good until about a week or so ago when I received the dreaded call from my wife about the upstairs AC unit NO LONGER blowing cold air. ?

Little did I realize the number of microbreweries that are sprouting and propagating the Northwest Austin corridor near The Domain.

It wasn’t until my wife and I were most recently invited to attend a graduation party from a person with our church’s community group.

As we drove to the location of the graduation party, I couldn’t help but notice microbreweries lining the streets of Metric over by Metric and Kramer in Northeast Austin.

One after the next, each microbrewery appear to specialize in its own delightful niche of homegrown brew.

When we finally arrived at our destination, 4th Tap Brewing Cooperative, I was kindly greeted with two different domains that had nothing to do with the brewery or party.

In fact, I struggled a bit to understand both domains and their respective uses.

Leaving from church yesterday, I decided to go a different route than sit in traffic from crossover to Mosaic and Gateway attendees.

As I was waiting to make a right onto McNeil Road from Pecan Street to head eastbound, I spotted a simple 7-Letter, 2-Word domain that I had passed hundreds of times over the last 10 or so years and not recognized it.

Well this week marks the end of a school year for quite a few families throughout the greater Austin metroplex.

It’s music to my ears to hear that school is out and traffic will be lessened for the next 3 months with not school buses or school related vehicles congesting the streets and highways. ?

It really doesn’t impact me all that much, seeing my commute is nothing but three minutes from the front door of my home to the door of my office.

With kiddos not old enough to be in the school cycle yet, I was reminded the school year had come to an end as I passed a few fliers at Rudy’s promoting camps and activities just-in-time for summer.

Can’t believe it’s been one year since last Memorial Day and giving for the honorable men and women graciously deciding to serve and protect the United States of America, many having lost their lives. ??

My family and I kicked off Memorial Day quite early than many folks — literally our day started just before 6 am CST.

As we did last year, we made our way down to Auditorium Shores to support our friend and spiritual daughter as she participated, competed, and placed 3rd in the Sprint Course for her age group at the Annual Memorial Day CapTexTri.

This time last month, my wife and I had were afforded an extraordinary opportunity to kill two birds with one stone.

The first bird was attending GoStrategic’s Transforum Event — a conference aimed at bridging the gap between spiritual truth and practical implementation.

The second bird was getting to spend time together with my wife and somewhat invest in our marriage together. ?

And what a weekend we had commencing Thursday night and convening late Saturday evening.

While meeting a friend for a long overdue lunch at good ole’ Rudy’s BBQ here in Austin, Texas, I stumbled upon an interesting advertisement.

As most of you know, emoji have nearly hit every corner of the earth as one of the hottest forms of communication, especially amongst Gen-Xers, millennials and younger.

In fact, emoji have not only found their way into email marketing for businesses, but are even making a splash as domains. Yes, emoji domains are real!

But as for this particular ad, it appears that “Talkin’ Texan Just Ain’t Gonna Be The Same” with the latest release of Texas Emoji Stickers app (released February 22, 2018).

Out with .com and in with .pizza ?

Out of all places on earth to have found a company using a .pizza domain name as a primary digital presence, imagine how surprised I was to have had this encounter happen in my hometown.

In the mid to late 90’s as the world was coming online, Sherman, Texas had just crossed over 30,000 population mark.

Back then, the Chamber of Commerce, Yellow Pages and Sherman Democrat, now the Herald Democrat, were a business’ advertising staple to reach more customers and generate greater revenue.

There were not many businesses, if any back then, touting a web address of any sort.

I’m certain most businesses owners had no clue of what a web address was nor did they ever imagine the Internet would be what it it today, some 20 years later.

20 years later and having adding another 10,000 folks in population, I often don’t think of Sherman as a city of progressive technological advancement, especially for businesses using new top-level domains.
